I\u2019d love to say it\u2019s just aging that I\u2019m struggling with, but I\u2019ve had a life long struggle with my self worth being based on my outward appearance. It started when I was 6 and my babysitter said to me \u201cTasha your hair is so fine!\u201d And&nbsp; I thought \u201cohh I have pretty hair!\u201d not knowing she meant fine as in very thin.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/mail.google.com\/mail\/e\/1f60a\" alt=\"\ud83d\ude0a\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>\u00a0I\u2019m good with complimenting each other on how we look- it\u2019s just when that becomes the main measure of my worth, I know I\u2019ve got to reset myself. So I go to one of my favorites, Louisa May Alcott. I\u2019ve read these words from Little\u00a0 Women\u00a0 so many times over the years to center myself. This is the scene after Meg goes to a party all dolled up and comes home disappointed at herself for caring so much.<br><em>Jo<\/em>\u00a0\u201cWhy should we care what anyone thinks?\u201d<br><em>Meg<\/em>\u00a0\u201d I do\u2026Its nice to be praised and admired. I couldn\u2019t help but like it. \u201d<br><em>Marmie<\/em>\u00a0 \u201cOf course you did. But I only care what\u00a0 you think of yourself. If you feel that your value lies in being merely decorative, I fear\u00a0 that someday you might find yourself\u00a0 believing that that is all that you really are. Time erodes all such beauty, but what it cannot diminish is the wonderful workings of your mind. your humor, your kindness, and your moral courage. These are the things I cherish so in you. \u201d Thank you Marmie for reminding me that beauty shines from the inside out. All I need to do to remember is look at the sun as it radiates out into the world and into me bringing me warmth and goodness.
